Here’s what happened at our previous breakfast meeting!
A few weeks ago you might have spotted members of the Leaders for Leeds network trying to get into a pub at 8am. For many this was an unusual experience. The Cross Keys on Water Lane very kindly got up early to host our breakfast meeting on the 20th May in their very welcoming James Watt Room.
We heard from Simon Foy, Head of policy and Intelligence at Leeds City Council. He gave us an overview of the recent trends and potential future prospects of the city’s economy in the context of the wider city region.
The city’s economy remains strong, robust, and is predicted to grow. Employment growth will bring new demands around infrastructure services and housing. We heard that inequality remains a central theme in the city despite our best efforts. Going forward educational attainment will be a key determinant for tackling these issues and rising to the challenges of closing the gaps between different parts of the city. Improving health and wellbeing remains a major issue for all.
Thank you to Simon for his input and to everyone who came along and contributed their questions.
