On September 19 at the lovely RBS offices on Whitehall Quay, we gathered in a packed room to connect our networks and support each other to make a positive difference in Leeds. Danny Leech kicked off the morning with a presentation about a new social initiative called Bee Wing Projects. This initiative provides work experience for prisoners through beekeeping: hosting bees, building hives, planting wildflowers, creating and selling locally made honey and beeswax products, as well as hives and bee colonies.
This initiative addresses a serious issue of bee extinction, and encourages local and sustainable solutions. It was a very exciting conversation that generated a lot of ‘buzz’! Following Danny’s presentation, over bacon sandwiches, tea and coffee, attendees caught up with old friends and made some new ones, before sitting down to learn about phishing, smishing and vishing at a fraud awareness seminar by Gilles Munro of RBS. Thank you to Danny and Gilles for their thought-provoking presentations, to Julian O’Neil from RBS for providing the space and lovely breakfast, and to all who attended!
The next session is on October 24, 2013 from 8:00 – 9:00am at Inkwell Creative Arts, 31 Potternewton Lane, Leeds and has been put together by The Conservation Volunteers, Canopy Housing, and Volition. As usual, please RSVP to Natalie Leach, on firstname.lastname@example.org if you can attend.
