Jaunty sounds from a Jazz Quartet, a range of tantalising mocktails and a twinkling three metre high Christmas tree provided a truly seasonal feel to the Leaders for Leeds December get-together.
Reflections on 2015 were shared by a number of members of the steering group. Tom Riordan talked about a strong Leeds economy. Exciting highlights included Burberry’s choice to locate in the city and Government backed agreement to develop an extensive single station in Leeds as a major train hub. Steve Hoey talked about a compassionate city supporting innovative and more varied housing options for people. The Leeds Community Housing has been formed to offer civic minded investors the opportunity to buy shares for these to be developed. Todd Hannula offered a personal reflection of re-discovering the power of ‘curiousity’ to stimulate new thinking and opportunities.
Engaged table conversations highlighted ambitions for 2016. Key areas to emerge were:
- Making Leeds a great city to walk around
- More opportunities for young and practically minded people to succeed
- Developing our different communities with public and private sector engagement and investment
The first of Leaders of Leeds events in the New Year will be led by young people from across the city. Our young leaders will talk about what they think and feel is important and set out some ‘asks’ of other leaders in the city. Based at the Town Hall on February 25 at 8.15 – 9.30, this is not one to be missed! Don’t miss out book your place by clicking here!
