We had an enjoyable hour in Harehills. Some of us found it quite tricky to just take some “time out” to talk about leadership and what it means in the city, without a set of agreed actions for someone to take away!
The big message for me was that leadership can take place at all levels in an organisation and in a community. Leaders emerge at the front line who can problem-solve, deliver and help others just as often as they do so at the “top” of the traditional hierarchy. In austere times, the challenge is to “flip” that traditional hierarchy and make sure the CEO and Directors are supporting people to lead change at the front line – very much more easily said than done. More Leaders for Leeds is trying to “mine” those people out of our organisations and communities and support them in a city-wide movement.
