Leaders for Leeds is not only an example of innovation in city leadership – moving from more traditional forms of governance to a more dispersed and co-produced network approach, but it is also a great example of civic enterprise in practice. The civic enterprise approach to leadership was shaped by The Commission on the Future of Local Government, which has attracted interest not only around the UK but also overseas.
In 2012 The Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) (the umbrella body for Victoria’s 79 local Councils) invited Leeds City Council to speak on the subject of the work of the Commission and its future directions at the 2013 National Future of Local Government Summit in Melbourne, Australia. The aims of the event were to encourage local government to embrace and drive reform across the local government sector.
Leeds City Council has produced this video to tell the story of the Commission on the Future of Local Government and show that Leeds understands the issues facing local government and is bringing people together to do something about it.
Leeds is becoming an international example of innovative leadership in practice. Let’s celebrate it and share our stories here!
